A long long time ago, I thought I might be a teacher.
Both my parents were teachers, all their friends were teachers, and many of my friends were teachers' kids -- if you are a teacher's kid, you will recognize that this is a state of mind, more than just your parent's occupation. You have been exposed to testing from a young age; if you're anything like me, you probably looked forward to those tests, when you filled in little circles with an HB pencil and, afterwards, were told your reading level. Many teachers' kids move easily into the career of teaching.
I began my Bachelors of Education degree, but was seduced by the siren call of Anthropology & Archaeology. So, while I never became an elementary teacher, I still love teaching, and it can feel a lot like coming home.
So, understandably, I'm pretty excited to be teaching again this fall.
Starting October 5, I'm going to be teaching a course at college, and if you live nearby and nurture an interested in writing, I hope you'll join us. We'll discuss the craft of writing short stories and novellas, examine a few short stories by established authors, and then get to the bones of writing our own. Students will receive critical feedback on their work, plus, they'll have the opportunity to read and discuss their tales. Best of all, you'll meet other like-minded writers who can support you and encourage you on your writing journey.
I hope you'll join us!
